MITCH AND HIS SPRINTER VAN
“Van life is my escape to get out into the world!” – Mitch
ONBOARD
Mitch is a digital nomad that lives van life Australia in his Mercedes Sprinter campervan. Although minimalistic, this is a van with compositing toilet, shower, kitchen and plenty of storage. The van is also fully decked out with 12 volt electricity. This helps Mitch to work full time from the van and make money on the road. His 12 volt setup includes solar panels, 210Ah battery bank, 1,000W inverter and a couple of portable battery banks.
He started van life in Sydney but now spends most of his time around the Gold Coast of Australia. When he’s not working, Mitch enjoys surfing, relaxing and meditating.
DIGITAL NOMAD LIFESTYLE IN A VAN
MITCH HAS BEEN A DIGITAL NOMAD FOR YEARS AND CONTINUES TO WORK HARD ON HIS BUSINESS WHILE LIVING ON THE ROAD.
When asked can anyone live van life, he replied by challenging anyone who have thought about living in a van to do it! He believes that unless you try van life, how will you ever know if it’s for you…
ONBOARD THE MERCEDES SPRINTER CAMPER
This is a Mercedes Sprinter camper with a minimalist and spacious feel because of the high roof and clean, light coloured walls. However, this is a van with shower, composting toilet, kitchen, plenty of storage and a slide out dining table! Yes, it has everything you need to live and make money in van life.
Another nice feature of this Mercedes Sprinter camper is the door between the front drivers seat and the living area. This door not only blocks out light (from both outside and inside), it gives an easy way to get into the front if a quick getaway is ever needed and also insulates the living area. Held in place when driving by an elastic clip, this door is a simple but great idea for any van!
A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS
WHAT TIPS DO YOU HAVE FOR PARKING OVERNIGHT?
- Firstly, what does your van look like! If you keep it looking plain and more like a delivery rather than loud colours, it will make things easier. Also, having curtains where the light doesn’t escape from the inside at night is important. And of course being quiet and not hanging outside your van!
DO YOU EVER GET TIRED OF LIVING ON THE ROAD?
- I don’t get tired of it, no. But I do find that I need to have some sort of grounding here and there. Having some certainty in your life is pretty important.
- And I find it common in people who have lived van life for 12 months or more. As van lifers we just want to get out there and be on the road, but it’s also important to look after your mental health as well.
- So if that means spending a few nights in a caravan park, definitely go and do that – there’s nothing wrong with that!
