Vegemite is not normally on the culinary wish list of most Frenchies. But this vanlifer is a grand exception!
Marie and her Magic Carpet (the van) have been living the vanlife dream for more than three years. Using her experience from decking out a van before, Marie used her superpowers to turn a Ford Econovan tradie van into the perfect driveable home!

THE MAGIC CARPET
ONBOARD
Working on the weekends at a reception desk, Marie lives vanlife for the love of it! She did four years in an inner city office, before heading north to the warmer weather where she can surf, skate, play guitar, and live the good life as she pleases! Living in a van means you don’t need a lot of money to survive.
INTERESTING FACTS
The Magic Carpet is complete with three surfboards, an ingenious skateboard rack, a pink interior and of course the customary fairy lights! Marie uses portable battery banks to recharge her phone and holds a bit of drinking water aboard. There’s quite a bit of storage under the bed, and the best part is that from the outside, the van still looks pretty tradie like!
A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS
DID YOU DECK THE VAN OUT YOURSELF?
- Yes, it was tradies’ van before. It was pretty ugly and I did that (the reno). It’s my second setup because what I had before wasn’t perfect. When you surf you have to think about the humidity and sand coming in.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PART OF THE VAN?
- I managed to squeeze three surfboards. When I did my new set up I wanted to make sure I could fit all of them. They all have names: Monster, Astro and Hope.
